The previous packaging for this ePaper digital device comprised a rigid box and lid that incorporated a felt insert to house the product inside – the felt being made from recycled content but not recyclable after use. We were tasked with rethinking the felt inner to create a new insert that was able to hold and protect the device whilst also being fully sustainable and recyclable. After research and development using 3D prints, we devised a paper pulp insert with custom tooling to replace the felt – giving the ability to hold the device or the additional accessories that can be purchased to accompany the product (a wall mount PoE dock or Smart magnet). This approach gave Visionect the flexibility to use one generic box to house and send different product lines – lessening packaging requirement and in turn reducing potential waste and lowering production cost.

The outer rigid box and separate lid were made from black uncoated paper and branded with a tactile inkless deboss to finish.
